RECORD NUMBER OF ENTRIES FOR THE MEDIA PRIZE

- Popularising the popularisation of social cooperation -

HBLF announced its "Medmedia_dijkioszto2005ia for Society" competition for the fourth time. The aim of this award is to acknowledge media reporting on the practical acts of social responsibility and cooperation, the popularisation of successful initiatives based on the cooperation of sectors, communities, organisations and private individuals.

There are such initiatives, aren't there? We trust, there are, and many more than we can be aware of. However we can learn a lot from and be inspired by the successful examples of community development and social responsibility. The role of the media can be significant in popularising such exemplary projects.

HBLF highly esteem the social commitment of journalists, reporters and editors and wish to acknowledge their work by announcing this competition year by year and reward the best articles and reports. This year more submissions were received than ever before. The 140 articles from nearly 70 contestants were assessed by a jury that included János Betlen (Hungarian Television), Sándor Érdi (Budapest Media Institute), András Faragó (Central European University), Balázs Gerencsér (NIOK), András Simon (Hungarian Television).

Based on their decision István Erdélyi (Hungarian Radio) won the first prize of 300.000 forint with his report titled "Only hope remains". The winning work calls the attention to a pressing social problem that was handled as a taboo earlier. It is the  care for the dying through introducing the Hospice organisation.  The second prize of 200.000 forint went to Katalin Vrannai (Figyelő) while Zoltán Faragó (Gyöngyös TV) got the third prize of 100.000 forint.

We congratulate all the contestants and gratefully encourage their realisation that it is important to develop civil society and encourage the cooperation between the social sectors. And last but not least special thanks to TESCO-GLOBAL Rt. and Aviva Életbiztosító Rt. due to their agreement with our goals and for having supported our "Media for Society" prize.
