Report by the HBLF for Diversity HR Workgroup

Over the course of the past six months the HBLF for Diversity HR Workgroup has engaged in two topics: generational issues and healthcare at the workplace.  The Workgroup embraced the latter topic in order to support the newly formed Healthcare Workgroup of HBLF.

In November 2010 we conducted our roundtable discussions with this in mind. Our current meeting received the title “Generations on the job market – Let’s start with the X!”. The topics included the obstacles which the 50+ or so-called X generation face in finding employment, and the EU’s requirements in connection with the affected generation’s employment. The effects of aging on the national economy and the benefits of the X generation’s presence at workplaces were also discussed; furthermore the role of HR experts in the employment of this generation was also introduced.

At the event we learned about the best practices of three companies, Jabil, Bringó Hintó and Kunpalast Karsai Zrt., in this field.
As a closure to the year 2010 within the framework of the “HBLF for Diversity” programme series, HBLF’s HR Workgroup, now for the second time, announced a photo contest within the topic of equal opportunities.

Our first initiative was an outstanding success: our travelling exhibition of 24 selected photographs was hosted at over 20 companies over the course of the year, and thus reached thousands of employees.  The eye-catching photographs were showcased at numerous conferences and our founder His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales also attended a viewing upon his official visit in March 2010.

Enthused by the success we decided to continue the proven practice, and in December 2010 we announced the contest once again. We asked for works to be submitted in our currently active fields of interest. We can consider it a result of our work so far, that the number of participating companies doubled, and in the spring of 2011 the expert jury selected the best photographs from over 100 entries, which will be on view both as a publication and as a travelling exhibition.

We held our awards ceremony at the International Business School in March 2011. Based on the jury’s decision in the “Healthcare at the Workplace” category János Kondorosi, employee of Budapest Bank Zrt. received the first prize with his picture entitled “Tai-Chi: the moment of movement”. Alexandra Káló and Endre Nándor Tóth, employees of Vodafone Hungary Zrt. received the second prize, and Orsolya Sályi, employee of Magyar Telekom received the third prize.

In the “Meeting of Generations at the Workplace” category, the first prize was awarded to Barbara Bakos, employee of MOL Nyrt. for her photograph entitled “I will be a fire-fighter and a soldier...”. The second prize was awarded to Zsófia Szatmári, employee of Ramada Plaza Budapest, while the third prize went to Dávid Valkó, employee of the Fővárosi Vízművek Zrt. Congratulations to the prize-winners!

With lots of new members, the Workgroup continues its enthusiastic and committed work, and is preparing its programmes for the autumn season.
