The ROMASTER talent care Prograhblf_romaster_logo_rgb.jpgm was launched in February 2007 jointly by the Hungarian Business Leaders Forum (HBLF) and IBM Hungary. The objective of the Program is to further develop a community with tertiary education and language skills within Roma society, ensuring that its members can gain competitive knowledge and take jobs offered by employers, or participate in the competitive economy by starting their own business. Corporate mentoring is a basic element in the Program, together with the concept that support is rendered only to those secondary school students who wish to take part in higher education and study for a degree in the fields of economy, engineering, law and health care.

How does the ROMASTER Program work?
the RomasteR Program is run by the HBLF ROMASTER Foundation through the active participation of sponsoring companies. the Program helps young Romas to successfully bridge the gap between secondary and higher education and finally to enter the labour market. the RomasteR Program is based on three pillars. one is financial support provided by companies, which the students may use for their studies. The second is even more important: the mentor, who is delegated by the sponsor companies to help those successfully applying for the Program both personally and professionally. the third is the opportunity provided by the companies to gain practical experience.

What makes the HBLF ROMASTER Program successful?
the RomasteR Program offers a long-term relationship – over 4 to 6 years – between the selected, disadvantaged Roma students and the representatives of the sponsor company until the students receive their degree. as a result, the students get  an insight into the operation and the culture of the company, better preparing them for the world of work. that the associates at the company also have the opportunity of learning about their students’ background is another important aspect. Further, they also get direct insight into the living conditions and the culture of the Roma. this experience promotes the creation of a work environment which is inclusive and diverse and strengthens their acceptance and the appreciation of their “being different”

The Program provides advantages and opportunities to all stakeholders involved:

Companies:
• Roma with a degree (in economy, engineering, law and health care),
• Roma with foreign language skills,
• Roma with a degree and experience in the business world,
• Personal contact with young, motivated and talented roma,
• Companies taking the lead in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),
• Serving social targets in general terms.

Students:
• opportunity to gain knowledge, be employed and building a career from a position of disadvantage,
• Building confidence and career orientation, leading to employment and success
• the opportunity to build a contact base in the private sector,
• opportunity to build a contact base with other students of similar ambition, Romaster alumni,
• Representing the interests of Roma and, at a later stage, rendering personal support to the Program.

Society
• Joining forces to create harmony and peaceful co-existence with Roma,
• Building the future.

Who finances the HBLF ROMASTER Program?
the companies which join the program contribute huF 300,000 / student / year (euR 1 000 /student / year) to study costs (language lessons, special classes, course books, travelling to school) until the student receives a degree.

How can your organization join the HBLF ROMASTER Program?
• Contact the secretariat of the HBLF ROMASTER Foundation: www.romaster.hu or www.hblf.hu,
• Sign a general agreement, joining the Program,
• assist with the selection of Roma students eligible for support from the student application database available at the Foundation,
• The company then appoints a mentor for the student, involving colleagues,
• the company also transfers to the Foundation the amount of the yearly support and the Foundation forwards this amount to the students’ school or, later on, to the student attending higher education.
