A new Target Group at HBLF: Partnership & Volunteering Target Group
The HBLF Partnership & Volunteering Target Group addresses a few of the key elements in present-day CSR / sustainability programs.
More and more companies understand the need for engaging their various stakeholders from different sectors (business, government & civil society) in some form of cooperation. Some of these involve strategically aggregating the resources and competencies of each to resolve a specific problem.
The new Target Group has a close link to the Partnering Initiative global program of the International Business Leaders Forum both on the levels of vision and goals. According to the Partnering Initiative’s definition, “A partnership is a cross-sector collaboration in which organisations work together in a transparent, equitable and mutually beneficial way towards a sustainable development goal and where those defined as partners agree to commit resources and share the risks as well as the benefits associated with the partnership.”
The benefits of partnering most often cited include improved risk management, better access to the knowledge and expertise of other parties, improved understanding of challenging issues and sustainable solutions and contributing to the building the tomorrow’s markets.
We share the view of the Partnering Initiative about partnering as a mechanism and not an end in itself. It is a mechanism for bringing about measurable and significant sustainable development outcomes which will endure long after the partnership and the partners have moved on to other things.
The other focus of the Target Group is corporate-driven and employer supported volunteering. The voluntary movement is certainly in its early stages of development in Hungary. Despite that, many companies have already learned that encouraging their employees to volunteer is good for the individual, for the community and for business.
Besides the benefits to the community, research into the topic clearly shows that companies with carefully planned and implemented voluntary programmes can gain significant internal benefits. These reports prove that the payoffs to employers include increased employee motivation and loyalty, higher productivity, enhanced employee competence and greater attractiveness of the business to prospective new employees.
The HBLF Target Group aims to raise awareness, enable the sharing of practical experience, contribute to cutting-edge knowledge and, in the long run, set standards in what constitutes good partnering and voluntary practice.
Those interested in participating in the work of the HBLF Partnership & Volunteering Target Group may write to the Executive Director or directly to the Leader of the Target Group.
